New Chapter Begins for Lincoln Windows - August 24, 2011

New Chapter Begins for Lincoln Windows

Merrill, WI. (August 24, 2011) – On April 10th, the Lincoln Windows final assembly plant and corporate offices were severely damaged by a category EF3 tornado that went through Merrill, Wisconsin.  Less than 4 months after the tornado struck, on August 9th 2010, Lincoln employees and contractors celebrated the completion of the rebuilding with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Initial estimates indicated that the plant would be facing a 6 month shutdown for major repairs.  Fortunately, the Lincoln management team chose a very aggressive reconstruction plan resulting in an earlier completion date while simultaneously allowing some production to remain in the plant.

The process wasn’t without challenges.  Construction crews and Lincoln employees had to deal with limited communication capability, cold weather, rain and even snow.  As if the physical challenges weren’t enough, the company was struck an emotional blow when Jane Bierman, Lincoln’s owner and co-founder, passed away at the age of 91.

The hardships shared by the employees have brought everyone together and strengthened the family atmosphere that Carl & Jane Bierman always sought.  This ribbon cutting became more than just celebrating the completion of a large project, it marked a symbolic starting point for a new beginning, a fresh optimistic outlook for the future and the opportunity to continue the Bierman legacy.

Lincoln Resumes Production - May 16, 2011

Lincoln Resumes Production

Merrill, WI. (May 16, 2011) – Five short weeks after an EF3 tornado severely damaged our final assembly facility, Lincoln Windows is pleased to announce that shipments of product have resumed.

This past week has seen the return of all plant employees and the first truck to leave our facility since the tornado hit on April 10th. While the plant and corporate offices will continue to be repaired over the next 4-6 weeks, all departments will be fully operational during this period.

It's been through the efforts of many individuals that we have been able to resume production so soon after the tornado hit our community. Lincoln is extremely proud of its employees and we are very appreciative of our vendors and customers who have supported us while our production was down. We look forward to being able to continue Jane Bierman's legacy of excellence for generations to come.

Lincoln Owner Jane Bierman Passaway at 91 - May 10, 2011

Lincoln Owner Jane Bierman Passes Away at 91

Merrill, WI. (May 10, 2011) – On Thursday, April 29th, Jane Bierman, the co-founder and owner of Lincoln Windows and Timeline Vinyl Windows, passed away at the age of 91. Jane was actively running the company until she suffered a stroke earlier this year.

Jane and her husband Carl founded Lincoln Wood Products, Inc. in 1947. Together, they started manufacturing many types of wood products and components. In the 1960's, the company evolved to be a manufacturer of complete wood window and patio door systems. Very attuned to changes in the industry, in 1994, Jane & Carl established Timeline Vinyl Products, Inc., an all vinyl window manufacturer, to compliment their very successful wood line. From early on, the focus was on brand loyalty, ethical business practices, customer service and treating customers as friends.

After Carl's death in 2002, Jane continued and even expanded her involvement in the companies and many local community organizations. During her career, Jane deservedly received many awards and accolades at the state and local level for her industry achievements and generosity within the community.

Both Lincoln and Timeline will endeavor to maintain the same level of manufacturing excellence and customer service that Jane & Carl have demanded and expected over the past 67 years. The entire Lincoln and Timeline family are deeply saddened by this loss and will miss Jane's leadership and friendship greatly. Her compassion, drive and guidance will serve as a benchmark as the companies continue her legacy.

Lincoln Facilities Struck by Tornado - April 16, 2011

Lincoln Facilities Struck by Tornado

Down but not out!

Merrill, WI. (April 16, 2011) – On April 10th, our corporate offices and final assembly plant were severely damaged by a category F3 tornado that hit Merrill, Wisconsin. This was one of eleven confirmed tornadoes that hit our state that day.

Locally, over 60 homes and 12 businesses were either damaged or destroyed. Even though the area was heavily hit, only minor injuries were suffered in the community. The only injury at Lincoln was sustained by a security guard. Luckily, the tornado impacted on a Sunday evening when personnel were not working.

Contrary to negative marketing being conducted by some competitors, Lincoln's production facilities are not a "total loss" and have not been "destroyed." Lincoln maintains multiple production locations in Merrill and fortunately only the final assembly plant and offices were damaged. We are repositioning the departments that were affected to our other facilities and plan to resume production within the next 3 weeks. Communications are still limited, but should be reestablished soon.

Our Timeline facility was not damaged by the tornado and is fully operational now that shared computer operations have been restored. Production has already resumed on existing and incoming orders.

The community has really come together in the support of the businesses and homeowners affected by the tornado and we are once again reminded how blessed we are to live in this area. We also wish to thank our dealers, vendors and even some of our competitors who have so generously offered to assist us during this time. Their thoughtfulness will be remembered.

Lincoln Aids in Preventing Childhood Injuries and Deaths - March 31, 2010

Lincoln Aids in Preventing Childhood Injuries and Deaths

Now offering sash limiters for double hung windows.

Merrill, WI. (March 31, 2010) – Every year thousands of children in the United States are injured from falling out windows. As National Window Safety Week approaches (April 4th-10th), Lincoln encourages all consumers in the market for double hung windows to install fall prevention devices to help reduce accidental falls. Lincoln's new optional sash limiters meet the requirements of ASTM F2090 and are available in two finishes, including white and chrome. Lincoln also offers sash limiters for their line of casement windows.

ASTM F2090 (2008): Standard Specification for Window Fall Prevention Devices With Emergency (Egress) Release Mechanisms establishes requirements for devices intended to address the risk of injury and death associated with accidental falls from windows by children five years old and younger.

ASTM-compliant window opening control devices, such as those offered by Lincoln:

  • Allow a window to be opened less than 4 inches.
  • Allow a window to be fully opened if needed as a means of escape or rescue in an emergency.
  • Resets automatically every time the window is opened.

Window Safety Tips

  1. Windows often serve as a means of escape during an emergency, such as a fire. Be prepared by having an emergency escape plan. Practice it regularly as a family and teach children how to safely exit through windows. Make sure each window opens easily and is free from clutter.
  2. When children are around, keep windows closed and locked. If ventilation is needed, open windows they cannot reach.
  3. Unattended children run the greatest risk of falls, so they should always be supervised by an adult while playing. Teach children not to play near windows and keep furniture and other items they can use as a climbing aid away from windows.
  4. Do not depend on screens to prevent falls. Instead, install fall prevention devices that meet American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) requirements, featuring quick release mechanisms that allow for easy escape during an emergency.

Lincoln Expands Energy Efficient Product Selection - March 25, 2010

Lincoln Expands Energy Efficient Product Selection

More products meet energy tax requirements.

Merrill, WI. (March 25, 2010) – The government's Economic Stimulus Package offers homeowners federal tax credits for making qualified improvements to their homes, which includes purchasing and installing energy efficient windows and patio doors from Lincoln.

Under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, homeowners can receive a federal tax credit of 30% of the cost of eligible products up to a total of $1500. Qualifying products must have both a U-Factor and a Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) of 0.30 or lower. Federal requirements also stipulate that qualified products must be installed between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2010.

Windows and patio doors rely heavily on glazing performance to meet performance numbers. Lincoln's new Dual Low-E glass packages tackle these program requirements by combining either LoĒ² or LoĒ³-366™ with a pyrolytic (hardcoat) low-e surface. This energy efficient glass lowers U-Values and retains more of the costly heat inside in the Northern and North/Central zones and blocks solar gain by reflecting heat in the South/Central and Southern zones.

Replacing old leaky or worn out windows and patio doors is easy with Lincoln's wide selection of products. Doing so not only reduces energy costs, but can add style and comfort to any home. For a complete list of eligible products, please visit their website at www.lincolnwindows.com.

Lincoln Expands Glass Options - June 24, 2008

Lincoln Expands glass Options

LoE366, Neat & Preserve now available.

Merrill, WI. (June 24, 2008) – In addition to standard insulating, LoE2, and specialty glasses, Lincoln has partnered with Cardinal Glass Industries and is now offering LoE366, Neat and Preserve for its windows and patio doors.

Controlling solar heat gain just became easier with the unparalleled performance of LoE366 glass technology.  Three microscopic layers of silver sealed in the airspace block solar gain and reflect heat more effectively, keeping homes cooler during warmer months.

Another goal with any high performance glazing is clarity.  LoE366 allows 66% visible light transmittance, reducing exterior reflectance and smoke-colored tints that can darken a home’s interior.  Great glass performance can actually be seen as well as felt.  UV light, the leading cause of fading, is blocked by up to 95% with LoE366.  This means furniture, flooring, artwork and other home furnishings all will benefit from this glass technology.

Now take all of the benefits of LoE366, the ultimate choice in glass, and combine them with Neat and Preserve to create the best performing glass package in the window industry.  Neat creates a smoother glass surface, causing water to disperse evenly, removing dirt more quickly and reducing water spots.  It also reacts with the sun’s UV rays causing organic material on the glass to decompose, leaving windows cleaner longer.

Preserve is a clear adhesive film that protects the glass during shipping and construction, saving time and money during cleanup.  Since the film is clear, it allows light in during the building process and because it contains no harmful chemicals, it can be disposed of with other waste materials.
